Cheshire House & Shropshire House – Enfield N18

Cheshire House and Shropshire House, two adjacent high-rise residential buildings, underwent an extensive refurbishment programme aimed at enhancing fire safety measures. During the works, RAAM facilitated the removal and replacement of fire-rated electrical enclosures and escape staircase doors, ensuring compliance with current fire safety standards.

In addition, RAAM installed bespoke fire-stopping details above all residential Flat Entrance Doorsets (FEDs), addressing the unique fire safety challenges of each building. Given that both buildings remained occupied by residents throughout the project, RAAM adopted a considerate contractor approach to minimise disruption. Measures included prioritising passenger lift usage for residents and carefully scheduling site deliveries to avoid conflicts with local school runs.

The project required close collaboration with Passive Fire Protection (PFP) manufacturers, notable technical advisors, and the client’s commissioned fire engineer. Together, a bespoke design for the electrical enclosures was developed, alongside fully tested and compliant fire-stopping solutions for the FED installations.

By adhering to a strict programme sequence of works, RAAM ensured that the installations were completed without impeding or limiting the essential escape routes for building residents. This meticulous planning and execution upheld the highest standards of health and safety while maintaining uninterrupted daily routines for residents.

RAAM’s role in this project highlights its expertise in delivering complex fire safety upgrades in occupied high-rise buildings, ensuring compliance with modern fire safety regulations while prioritising the wellbeing of residents.
